I tried googling, but I couldn't figure out how to combine a crop command with playing the /dev/video0 capture device. While I don't know the exact dimensions of what I end up cropping the video to, I can find them out by trial and error. Then, because VLC automatically resizes the cropped video to full screen, this is effectively like having a 'digital zoom', to zoom in on the important bits in the center of the video feed. So far, the script works as intended, except for one small issue, vlc://quit is not working, period. ogg files and places them into a folder on a different disk using vlc's command line commands. Launching vlc using cmd Postby Merowingian» Thu 2:44 pm Hi, I have already tried to launch an internet stream via vlc as shown in the documentation, using cmd, C:>vlc and hit enter. But because the webcam is super-wide-angle, I then also have to use ALT-R, ALT-C, ALT-D, and ALT-F, to manually crop the video one pixel at a time from each edge. Currently I am attempting to write a batch file that recursively converts all. I have this security webcam set up, and whenever I bring my laptop home, I like to plug the camera into the laptop's USB port, fire up VLC, and use the laptop as the webcam monitor. (But it cannot be used for what I need VLC for, so I cannot use it for this.Could anyone help me create a VLC shortcut to automatically open the capture device /dev/video0 at 1024x576, and then crop and resize said video to a specific size, say 800x450? However, it looks as if you are serious about watching the video in the terminal itself. You can mind the video quality: mpv is a top quality video player. It is available in the standard Ubuntu repositories. For example, the media player MPC-HC respects all of the arguments I send to it. 3 Answers Sorted by: 8 Meet mpv, your command line video player. No other software behaves like this, so it cannot be "my fault". Launching vlc using cmd Postby Merowingian Thu 2:44 pm Hi, I have already tried to launch an internet stream via vlc as shown in the documentation, using cmd, C:\\>vlc and hit enter. I want to loop or repeat one sound until manually stopped - is loop the right one or does that only. I looked at the Docs and it seems there are two possible options: -loop. So I need to use additional Command-Line arguments for looping or repeating that beep sound. All have been ignored by VLC.ĭoes VLC even have support for any of its options that are documented? It seems like they are ignored. I know I can start VLC and the beep sound file with vlc myfile. considered the situation which the feedrate of the deceleration point is equal to the command feedrate. In the past, I've tried to use other options for setting the volume and other things. But it needed computing VLC and switching point. I've also tried much smaller numbers - same gigantic window. VLC opens up, playing that video file in a gigantic window. So I used them: vlc.exe "D:\videos\clown_jumping_on_trampoline.mp4" -width 320 -height 240 By default, the video window size will be adjusted to match the video dimensions. Reading the documentation at, I found this: -width, -height sets the video window dimensions. So I want to make it open a small window. VLC always opens with a gigantic window which is very annoying.
